Clear Aligners

Clear aligners offer an appealing alternative to braces for straightening teeth because you don’t have to go through the hassle of wearing metal brackets and wires. They can be an ideal option for busy adults and teens looking for a comfortable, discreet way to align their teeth.

At Preston Ridge Dental, Dr Ramsay offers Invisalign® clear aligner therapy for patients who want to enhance their smile or correct their bite.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Instead of wearing braces, Invisalign relies on clear, BPA-free plastic aligners to gently move your teeth. Wearing your aligners for at least 20 hours per day will help you achieve the best results, but you can easily remove them when it’s time to eat, brush, or floss.

You’ll wear each set of aligners for two weeks, then move to the next set in the series according to Dr. Ramsay’s treatment plan. Most patients finish their treatment with clear aligners in 10 to 18 months, depending on their needs.

What Are the Advantages of Clear Aligners?

Here are some of the exceptional benefits that clear aligners provide for our patients.
Removable Aligners
The ability to remove your aligners makes brushing, flossing, and eating simple.
Excellent Discretion
Because your aligners are clear, no one will notice you’re straightening your teeth.
No Food Restrictions
You can enjoy all the foods you love during treatment with Invisalign removable aligners.
Comfortable to Wear
Clear aligners are smooth and comfortable to wear, unlike the uncomfortable, pokey feel of braces.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight teeth are about far more than a great smile (though that's certainly a wonderful bonus). At Preston Ridge Dental, we view orthodontic alignment through a whole-body wellness lens because how your teeth fit together truly affects your overall health.

The Downfalls of Crooked Teeth

When teeth are crowded, crooked, or misaligned, they create tight spaces that are harder to clean, even with diligent brushing and flossing. Over time, this can lead to plaque and bacterial buildup, increasing your risk of cavities, gum disease, and bad breath. Misalignment can also put uneven pressure on certain teeth, accelerating wear, chipping, or even fractures.

Beyond oral health, misaligned teeth can affect your body in other ways, including:

  • Jaw pain and headaches — An uneven bite can strain your jaw muscles and joints, leading to chronic discomfort.
  • Jaw joint (TMJ) issues — Since your bite affects how your jaw functions, misalignment can contribute to temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) over time.
  • Chewing discomfort — An improper bite can make it harder to chew efficiently, which may affect digestion and eating comfort.

And, of course, there's the confidence factor. A straighter smile often helps patients feel more comfortable speaking, laughing, and smiling freely, which can have a real impact on day-to-day life.

What Problems Can Clear Aligners Fix?

While clear aligners work well for many patients, they’re not ideal for complex bite concerns. However, Invisalign can correct several common orthodontic issues, such as:

  • Gaps between teeth
  • Tooth crowding
  • Rotated or crooked teeth
  • Mild bite misalignment, such as overbites, underbites, and crossbites

If Invisalign is not suitable for your smile, Dr. Ramsay will discuss other treatment options with you that will help you reach your smile goals.
